PABLO GARCÍA RODRÍGUEZ
(Pontevedra, 1969)

He belongs to the Research Group of Media Engineering (GIM, “Grupo de Ingeniería de Medios”) in the area of Computer Languages and Systems in the University of Extremadura (Spain). He has obtained the title of Doctor in Computer Science Ph.D. in 2000 and with the first mention of European Thesis by the University of Extremadura. He has been working in teaching and as a research staff of the University of Extremadura since 1997. His teaching is mainly centered on subjects of Programming in Computer Engineering and in the field of Databases and Information Systems. His fields of research are related to Databases, Information Systems, BigData, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cibersecurity and the development of techniques of Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis.

He was the Director of the School of Technology (Escuela Politécnica) in Cáceres with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in the fields of Civil Engineering, Building, Computer Science and Telecommunications (2015-2019). Under his direction at the Polytechnic School, an international quality seal has been obtained in the Telecommunications Engineering degree. Previously, as Subdirector of New Technologies at the School of Technology, he was in charge of the SmartPoliTech project on energy efficiency of the entire center with 7 pavilions, with their sensorization, storage, monitoring and intelligence. He has also been one of the professors who led the SOL (SmartOpenLab) project for Maker students within the School of Technology, who founded an association, and formed a FabLab with many devices and machines supported by the Regional Government of Extremadura and by RED.ES (the Ministry).

He was also General Director of the Digital Agenda of the Regional Government of Extremadura, since September 2019 until August 2023. Highlighting that it was the first time that the Digital Agenda or similar was a General Directorate in the Government of Extremadura, being basically responsible for Connectivity and Digital Transformation in line with the policies of the European Union.

His academic training begins with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences specializing in Electronics and Computing from the University of Santiago de Compostela. After graduating, he obtained a Research Personnel Training (FPI) grant from the Ministry of Education with a duration of 4 years. He has carried out research stays at the University of Chicago in the USA (3 months), the University of Münster in Germany (3 months) and the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium (4,5 months). He has more than 30 articles in journals with JCR impact index.

As a result of this research work, it is worth highlighting that he is co-author of more than thirty articles published in international journals indexed in JCR, with an H index of 14 in terms of citations obtained by these articles. It currently has 3 research six-year terms at the national level, and the last of them is an “active” six-year term. It also has a six-year transfer period (2019).

Regarding the transfer of research results, it has developed a patent in Remote Sensing with the University of Extremadura (50%) in collaboration with the University of Santiago de Compostela. And he has participated in the creation of a business project in the form of a Spin-off, specialized in Document Management, as one of the founding partners from 2004 to 2011.
