The researching group “Hyperspectral Computing Laboratory” (HyperComp) at the University of Extremadura, which is coordinated by Antonio Plaza, has organized the course «Urban Remote Sensing and Data Fusion» by Paolo Gamba (University of Pavia, Italy).
This course has been carried out in the Lecture Hall of the Polytechnic School in the Cáceres campus from 9:30 to 13:30 pm, during days 3, 4 and 5 April 2013.
This picture is of the lecturer Paolo Gamba and the main organizer Antonio Plaza, just before starting the course on the first day:
Prof. Paolo Gamba is one of the prominent scientists worldwide in the area of Remote Sensing of the earth, being a Fellow of the IEEE international society and Chief Editor of the prestigious IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters.
From the point of view of the speaker:
The contents of the course have been related to aspects Remote Sensing («Teledetección» in Spanish) on urban areas, including different technologies such as optical sensors (multispectral and hyperspectral) and radar-based technologies (SAR and LiDAR). The course has been closely related to aspects of SmartCities, currently being approached at the Polytechnic School on a smaller scale with the project

Especially interesting was the third day, at least for the writer of these lines, which discussed important aspects of Data Fusion:
The last day at midday a snack was organized for the participants at the Polytechnic School, since the event was attended by researchers from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Complutense University of Madrid and the University of the Basque Country and Junta de Extremadura.
